Bolsterstone lies between Stocksbridge, to its immediate north, and Ewden valley which it overlooks to the south. At almost 300m above sea level, the village feels far from the tumult of urban life, and when walking in the surrounding fields overlooking the valleys around one could be almost anywhere. In fact the centre of Sheffield is only a 20 minute drive away, and the whole area is within the city boundaries! Getting there is easy apart from when deep snow is on the ground; coming from Sheffield the easiest route is along Penistone road as far as Hillsborough, and then along Middlewood road all the way to the junction at Deepcar where the confluence of the Little Don and the Don is located. Taking the left on the road to Stocksbridge, you should take a sharp left just past the lights up Carr Road. Its a steep road that takes you all the way into the village, conveniently at the entrance to the "Castle" pub. If you take a left at this point, the village hall is dead ahead. If you are coming by public transport, the supertram takes you as far as Middlewood, where you can catch the "Supertram Link" bus at the same platform (runs every 10 minutes). Get off the bus at Cedar Road, on the edge of Stocksbridge, face left, and you are looking across the fields to Bolsterstone on the horizon. Its a 5 minute walk along the road. The supertram link bus doesn't run after 7pm, but to get back, you catch the no.58 from the same stop at Cedar Road. It runs once an hour until 10.25pm, going on into Stocksbridge and then back to Sheffield.
Most of our regular meeetings these days take place at the community hall of Christchurch, Stocksbridge. This is even easier to find as the church is on Manchester Road, the main street passing through the centre of Stocksbridge, towards the west end of the centre on the right hand side if travelling west. It has a good sized car park, and both the Supertram Link and 57 buses have stops on Manchester Road.
