The eastern edge of the "East Moors" form the western uplands of South Yorkshire, to the immediate north of Sheffield. They rise above the eastern lowlands like the arc of a great theatre, its rivers and valleys forming paths leading down into the highway to the east, the river Don.

These rivers and valleys are not just a nice place
for a walk; they contain the relics of past lives,
observable in the landscape as monuments and
artefacts, regularly noted or recovered by BAHG
members while walking, surveying, or doing
systematic fieldwalking.
